2015 Courts Fiji Rapid Open

Candidate Master (CM) Manoj Kumar defeated National Champion CM Calvin Prasad in a close encounter to clinch the Courts Fiji Rapid Open title with 5/5. CM Calvin Prasad and CM Noel Adricula finished 2nd and 3rd with 4/5.

“The tournament attracted about 40 participants and enthusiasm among younger players was positive,” reports Deputy Arbiter Gaurav Raicar. “Courts Fiji generously donated a total of 12 prizes for the Elite, Intermediate and Open Categories.”

Women’s National Champion Cydel Kabrina Terubea won the Junior Category in the Elite Division with 3/5 while Rudr Prasad and Russell Talonga were 2nd and 3rd with 2/5.

In the Intermediate Category’s Elite Division, Ravikesh Prasad stamped his domination with a flawless score of 5/5. He will be promoted to the Elite Division in the next tournament by virtue of performance. Anthony Maelasi and Kiran Khatri finished 2nd and 3rd in the same division with 4/5.

Young Calvin Ong impressed in the Intermediate Category’s Junior Division by top-scoring with 3/5. Vinooda Senewiratne had the same number of wins, but had to settle for 2nd place by virtue of tie-break. Mahir Prasad finished 3rd in the same category with 2/5.

The next tournament in the Federation’s calendar is the National Primary and Secondary Schools Chess Championship on August 15.
