2015 Kundan Singh Open Chess

Calvin Prasad won the 2015 Kundan Singh Open held at Tappoo City in Suva scoring 7 wins from 7 games.

“It was a wonderful experience competing with so many talented players. It’s encouraging to see so many upcoming players, who keep improving every tournament,” said Prasad.

40 participants vied for 10 prizes in 5 categories over the 1-day tournament.

Veteran Noel Adricula scooped second prize in the Open category with 5 points, while Rakiraki-based John Caldeira with 4.5 points had to settle for third.

The Women’s category was won by Cydel Terubea with 5 points, while Claudya Koroi (4) and Gloria Sukhu (3) took second and third respectively.

Zen Borg (5) continued his impressive form, claiming first prize in the Junior (U20) category. Borg was followed by Menash Fareed (5) and James Zhang (4).

Stanley Zhang won the Secondary category with 5 points. Quinton Sukhu (4.5) and Vinooda Senewiratne (4) came in second and third respectively.

Young Rudr Prasad (4.5) won the Primary category, followed by Agra Navaratne (3.5) and Auston Koroi (3).
