Siblings Rudr Prasad and Tanvi Prasad of Deenbandhoo Memorial Primary School stunned their opposition by taking top honors in the Fiji Chess Federation sponsored National Primary and Secondary School’s Open Chess Championship.
Candidate Master (CM) Manoj Kumar defeated National Champion CM Calvin Prasad in a close encounter to clinch the Courts Fiji Rapid Open title with 5/5. CM Calvin Prasad and CM Noel Adricula finished 2nd and 3rd with 4/5.
Candidate Master (CM) Calvin Prasad clinched the first National Sports Day Blitz Championship title with 8 wins and a draw with William Bennion. He remained unbeaten at 8.5/9 while CM Goru Arvind finished 2nd with 8/9. CM Noel Adricula was 3rd with 6.5/9.
Candidate Master (CM) Manoj Kumar slipped past a 4-way tie with CM Goru Arvind, CM Calvin Prasad and CM Ronald Terubea to clinch the Rajnesh Parmeshwar Memorial Rapid Open with 4/5. All 4 players dropped a game each against one of the others to create a thrilling finish.
Candidate Master (CM) Calvin Prasad successfully defended the Mohammed Badshah Memorial title by finishing at 4.5/5 after drawing with CM Manoj Kumar in the final round. CM Ronald Terubea came second with 4/5 while Manoj Kumar was third with the same score.
