Mixed results for Fiji at Oceania zonal

The 2017 Oceania Zonal tournament got underway in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday.

The opening ceremony of the biennial event was officiated by New Zealand parliamentarian Jamie-Lee Ross and observed a minute of silence for Fijian chess prodigy Russell John Simpson Taloga who lost his life in a tragic swimming incident earlier this week. Continue reading

FCF mourns loss

FIJI TIMES: January 13, 2017 – ZEN Borg, a national chess representative who was to have left for New Zealand with Russell Taloga is today only reminiscing their chess days.

Borg, a former Yat Sen Secondary School student, now a student of the University of the South Pacific, has had chances to play chess with Taloga who became the first 2017 drowning victim in the country last weekend. Continue reading

Chess trio booked for Oceania qualifier

Yat Sen student Russell Taloga and USP student Zen Borg will join Candidate Master Manoj Kumar at the 2017 Oceania Zonal Tournament in New Zealand next week.

The 2016 Fiji Day Open Chess Championship will be held at Khatri Hall in Suva from 08:30 AM on Monday, 10 October 2016 to mark Fiji Day. Prize pool of $ 500.00 is available for various categories.

2016 Rajnesh Parmeshwar Memorial

Candidate Master (CM) Ronald Terubea slipped past CM Calvin Prasad and CM Manoj Kumar via tie-break after the trio were locked at 4/5. Each of the leaders dropped a point each due to intensity of competition in the Rajnesh Parmeshwar Memorial Open Chess Championship. Prasad and Kumar were 2nd and 3rd overall.
