The Fiji Chess Federation held its 37th Annual General Meeting at FASANOC Olympic House on Wednesday (30th March 2016) evening whereby a new Executive Board was elected. Back in the line-up are President Calvin Prasad and General Secretary Goru Arvind who stood unopposed for their positions.
Candidate Master (CM) Ronald Terubea won the Brijlal Open Chess Championship after stunning top seed CM Manoj Kumar in a thrilling encounter to finish with 4.5/5.
Ex-Olympiad rep Taione Sikivou won the Kundan Singh Open Chess Championship after he slipped past Candidate Master (CM) Ronald Terubea and Oscar Eloson in a tie-break since all of them had 4/5.
Candidate Master (CM) Noel Adricula upset defending champion CM Calvin Prasad and rattled the leadership board at the 5th TappooCity National Blitz Championship. The event was won by CM Manoj Kumar who amassed 8/9.
Candidate Master (CM) Manoj Kumar warded off several challengers as he won the National Open Chess Championship at FASANOC Olympic House with 7.5/9. He won 6 games and drew with CM Goru Arvind, Jose Celiz and Zen Borg to remain unbeaten in the 5-day event.
