DEFENDING champion Manoj Kumar successfully retained the Nasese Medical Centre-sponsored Blitz Championship at the Fiji Olympic House yesterday.

Kumar finished with 14.5 points.

The schoolteacher said he was confident about retaining his title.

"There was strong competition," he said. "This was the first competition of the year but I wasn't rusty because I had practiced online."

Calvin Prasad finished second with 13 points and Dr Neel Arora was third with 11.5 points in the 15-player field.

In the major upset of the day, Gloria Sukhu, who was took out the top prize in the female grade upset Dr Arora.

She finished with seven points.

Martin Fuesner amassed five points to scoop the secondary school's grade title.

The winners were awarded with cash prize and gift vouchers from Prouds.
