Kundan Singh Open Championship

 
The Kundan Singh Open Chess Championship was held successfully at the Fiji School of Medicine Pacifika Campus in Suva on Sunday 19 February 2012. Candidate Master Calvin Prasad continued his unbeaten winning spree since October 2011 to emerge a flawless winner with 5 wins off 5 games. He managed to hold off arch rival Candidate Master Manoj Kumar who came 2nd with 4 wins, while veteran Dr Neel Arora finished 3rd with 3 wins.
 
   

2012 Sunday Chess Clinics

The Fiji Chess Federation will commence FREE Chess Coaching and Practice Sessions for players of all skill levels, age groups and categories. This includes existing players and all those who are interested to learn the basics of playing chess. All those who are interested are most welcome at the Level 4 Foyer in Tappoo City, Suva. First session is between 03:00PM to 05:00PM on Sunday 12 Feb 2012.

   

2012 Tappoo City Open

The Tappoo City Open Chess Championship was won by Candidate Master Calvin Prasad. He triumphed in all 4 of his games. He was followed closely by arch rivals Dr Neel Arora and Candidate Master Manoj Kumar who had 3 wins. The Best Female Player in the Elite Division was given to Wati Kado, an upcoming youngster.

The Intermediate Division tied between 4 players who amassed 4 wins out of 5 games. After tie-breaks, the order of winners from 1st to 4th was declared in the order of Martin Feussner, Brian Terubea, Joseph Yuen and 9 year old Jacky Masilomani. The Female Division was won by Jacky Masilomani at 4 wins. She was followed by Louise Masilomani at 3 wins and Sugandha Goswami at 2 wins and 1 draw.

Preview - 2012 Fiji International Open

The 1st Fiji International Open Chess Championship will be held on May 5-12, 2012.

Venue: Peninsula International Hotel, Suva, Fiji

Format & Time Control: 9-Round Swiss with time control of 90 minute plus 30 seconds per move from move one.

Entry Fees:
The entry fee will be F$250 (approx A$135/NZ$175). Free entry for GM, IM, WGM, WIM. There will be a discount of 20% on entry fee for those who register on or before 31 March 2012.

2011 National Championship

Candidate Master Calvin Prasad won 100 % of his 9 rounds to win the 2011 National Chess Championship. He played against a very strong pool which consisted of arch rival Candidate Master Manoj Kumar who had won the last 4 National Chess Championships, the unpredictable wizard of end-games Dr Neel Arora, Australia based veteran Dr Sanmogam Goundar, New Zealand based Asheesh Gautam (who is the only Fiji player to have upset an International Master), USP Champion Rajiv Raj, the bullet-brained Under-20 Champion Ronald Terubea, Goru Arvind, Jun Adricula and the aggressive Noel Adricula. It was an intense 5-day tournament which had several players vying for the top position in different rounds.
