2009 Teams Championships

The Fiji Chess Federation will be hosting the 2009 National Teams Championship on Saturday 18th July 2009 at the Fiji Olympic House in Suva

Defending teams championship TNT (skippered by CM Calvin Prasad,  Dr. Jashint Maharaj and veteran Dr Neel Arora) are the favorites to win this upcoming National Teams Championship.


Team captain CM Prasad, who had an exceptionally good performance at this years Oceania Zonal Chess, would be hoping to make it two in a row, but will face uphill battle against other teams such as Danger Mouse and USP. Not forgetting the newly formed team(s), representing the Nadi Chess Club, including the enthusiast Dr Raymond Fong,  Andrew Lee,  Noel Adricula, Aditi Sharan and Nischal Kush.

This development no doubt makes for a thoroughly exciting day of chess when the 3 player teams go head to head in this prestigious event on Saturday 18th July 2009 at the Fiji Olympic House in Flagstaff, Suva.

National Secondary schools champion, Dhiraj Chand  is expected to lead a strong MGM  High School side in the Secondary Schools category. Former MGM team captain Gaurav Raicar will be appearing for the team USP, led by Asheesh Gautam.

Schools coordinator Gloria Sukhu said that the tournament would be wide open and all teams were poised to grab victory should the favourites slip.

CM Manoj Kumar confirmed, Australian based Roneel Sharma will continue sponsoring for this one and only prestigious teams event. And is expecting to see very charged atmosphere in this tournament.  "It will be delightful to see more schools participating in the event."

Registration begins at 8am with the first round scheduled for 8.30am.
