2009 National Junior Championship

The 2009 Fiji Chess Federation Sponsored National Junior Championship is set to explode. After a successful completion of the Primary and Secondary School's Championship, FCF will be hosting the 2009 National Junior Championship where everyone under the age of 20 will get a chance to prove worthy of themselves.

The overall winner will get a chance to represent the Juniors in this years annual National Championship's, which will be held later this year.

"We hope to see more juniors battling for the overall crown come this weekend. It is a good chance for those who are under the age of 20 to test their chess skills as this is the last week of school before the holidays begins." said Assistant Secretary Krishneel Nair.

"There are a lot of prizes up for grabs including cash prizes in different age categories. Youths, under the age of 20, from all over the country are invited to participate in this prestigious events."

"Alongside the juniors, the parents and other adults who are keen to play chess are also invited to participate in the a parrallel event. We are expecting to see majority of the school students participating from the Nausori-Suva corridor as well as the tertiary institutes like USP, FIT, FCAE and FSM."

St Joseph secondary student, Hild Areki who represented Fiji in the last Oceania Zonal Chess, will be eyeing for the best female overall. She brings with her a lot of experience and exposure when it comes to chess. In the other categories, Ravi Bhavsar, Dhiraj Chand and Wayne Areki will go head to head for the best overall male, not forgetting Rodney Sharma from Indian College.

A concurrent Open event will also be held. Registration will begin at 8am with tournament proper 8.30am
