2013 JR White National Championship

Candidate Master (CM) Calvin Prasad convincingly won the National Chess Championship by amassing 7.5/8, his lone draw coming from a close match with John Caldeira. CM Ronald Terubea finished in 2nd place at 5.5/8, a clear two points behind the tournament leader.

CM Manoj Kumar secured the 3rd position at 5/8 after he was upset by Under-20 National Champion Keez Terubea in the final round. John Caldeira came 4th with 4.5/8, while Menash Fareed and Goru Arvind ended at 3.5/8. Continue reading

2013 Courts Fiji Open

Fiji’s most prolific chess player in recent times, CM Calvin Prasad smashed his way to victory by winning all 7 games at the Courts Open Chess Championship on Saturday. He dented a strong challenge from top contenders CM Manoj Kumar and CM Ronald Terubea who finished second and third respectively.

The tournament was played under a new 30 minutes plus 10 seconds per move format which allowed more rounds to be played, but it did not deter the regular strong players from winning in their respective categories. Continue reading

2013 FMF Under 20 Championship

Keez Terubea won his first major title by securing the FMF Under-20 Championship against the presence of his siblings CM Ronald Terubea and ex-Olympiad representative Kabrina Terubea. The trio dominated the championship and even managed to hold-off WFM Hilda Vukikomoala who suffered a shock loss to Jacquelyn Masilomani. Continue reading

2013 National Primary & Secondary School

12-year old Menash Fareed of Yat Sen Primary School and Ronald Terubea of Nausori High School won the Primary & Secondary School’s Championships respectively at Tappoo City Complex on Sunday 19 May 2013.

The duo continued their impressive performance at the 2013 Oceania Zonal Chess Championship where Menash Fareed scored 3/9 and Ronald Terubea, 5/9. Continue reading
