The Fiji Chess Federation (FCF) will host a workshop for chess arbiters in Suva on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
An arbiter is responsible for ensuring that the rules and laws of chess are followed in tournaments. In Fiji, the role of the Chief Arbiter sometimes overlaps the responsibilities of the Tournament Organiser.
The 5-hour workshop will cover the elements involved in organising and officiating at FCF’s one-day rapid tournaments. The workshop will primarily discuss the FIDE Laws of Chess, FIDE rating system, and the Swiss Manager pairing software.
After attending the workshop, and satisfactorily officiating at three FCF tournaments, participants may be awarded the National Arbiter title from FIDE.
The workshop will be conducted by FIDE Arbiter Calvin Prasad and will be limited to six participants. Participants are expected to be well-versed with the FIDE Laws of Chess.
Interested participants must send in applications to firstname.lastname@example.org before Sunday, January 14, 2018.
